Program Requirements

College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences All majors under this college require a 2.00 overall grade-point average for transfer with the exception of the Landscape Architecture major, and the Textiles, Apparel and Merchandising major. For the Landscape Architecture program, a 2.25 grade-point average is required for application in fall semesters, and a 2.50 GPA is required in spring semesters. For the Textiles, Apparel and Merchandising program, a 2.25 grade-point average is required for application.

Eberly College of Arts and Sciences Minimal requirements for regular admission to degree programs are completion of 30 to 58 hours of course credit, a 2.00 overall grade-point average, and a 2.00 grade-point average in courses already completed in the discipline of the major; however, several specific degree programs or majors have additional requirements (see current Undergraduate Catalog). Although several pre- programs are housed in the college, most are housed in the University Advising Center (see Pre-program section).

College of Business and Economics The College of Business and Economics requires a 2.90 overall grade-point average, 58 credit hours, and the following entrance requirements for consideration for direct admission to the college: 6 hours of principles of accounting, 6 hours of economics, 6 hours of composition and rhetoric, 3 – 4 hours of computer science, 6 hours of mathematics (including calculus), and 3 hours of statistics.

Students not meeting these requirements may seek admission into the pre-business and economics program. (See Pre-program section).

College of Creative Arts An overall 2.00 grade-point average is required for admission into this college. Music majors must audition before they can be considered for admission. An audition may be required for Theater majors, and transfer credit in Art is dependent on an evaluation of a portfolio of art work.

College of Engineering and Mineral Resources Students wishing to transfer into the College of Energy and Mineral Resources (CEMR) from other programs may do so provided (a) they would have been qualified to enter CEMR under freshmen admissions standards at the time of initial entry into higher education, and (b) they have maintained at least a 2.0 grade point average in all work taken since high school.

Those students who wish to transfer into CEMR who did not qualify for admission at the time they began higher education may do so provided (a) they present evidence that they are ready to enroll in Math 155 (Calculus) by either scoring at the appropriate level on the WVU mathematics placement examination or achieving a “C” average in mathematics course(s) prerequisitie to Math 155, and (b) they have completed at least one semester of college-level work and maintained at least a 2.0 grade-point average in all work taken since high school.

College of Human Resources and Education A 3.00 overall grade-point average is required for admission consideration for Education and Pre-Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism All students are referred to the pre-journalism program. (See pre-program requirements below.)

School of Physical Education Generally, the School of Physical Education requires an overall 2.00 grade-point average for admission. Pre-Programs (University Advising Center) Pre-Arts and Sciences

All majors in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences require a 2.00 overall grade-point average for transfer into the pre-program; all students are admitted into pre-programs until program admission requirements have been met. Exceptions: admission to pre-computer science or to pre-statistics requires a 3.00 grade-point average and 8 hours of calculus. In addition, candidates for admission to computer science must have a 3.00 grade- point average in all completed computer science and mathematics courses as identified in the Undergraduate Catalog; candidates for statistics must have a 3.00 grade-point average in all statistics courses completed.

Pre-Business and Economics Students with fewer than 58 transferable credit hours and those not meeting the College of Business and Economics entrance requirements may be admitted to pre-business and economics. Students with 40 credit hours or less must have a 2.0 grade-point average to be eligible for admission to Pre-Business and Economics. In addition, those students with 29-40 credit hours must have college algebra, pre-calculus, or a calculus course. Students having between 41 and 58 hours must have a 2.25 overall grade-point average in addition to one of the math courses listed above.

Pre-Journalism Students must have an overall 2.00 grade-point average and no more than 58 transferable credit hours for admission into pre-journalism.

Pre-Medical Labratory Science and Pre-Nursing The Pre-Medical Labratory Science program requires a 2.25 overall grade-point average and Pre-Nursing (School of Nursing) requires a 2.00 overall grade-point average and no more than 70 transferrable credit hours. Students are admitted into these programs in order to complete entrance requirements for these majors. When students are ready to apply to these majors, they must complete a separate application. Admission to these programs is competitive and admission to the pre-program does not guarantee admission into the major.

Pre-Pharmacy and Exercise Physiology Admission into these programs is based on an overall 2.75 grade-point average for Pre-Pharmacy and an overall 2.75 grade-point average for Exercise Physiology and no more than 50 transferable credit hours. Students are admitted into these programs in order to complete entrance requirements for these majors. When students are ready to apply to the major, they must complete a separate application. Admission to these programs is competitive and admission to the pre-program does not guarantee admission into the major.
