Once we have received your application and all required admission credentials, your file will be reviewed promptly and you will be notified in writing of our decision.

Types of Admissions

First Time Freshman: You are students who are under the age 24 and have completed a high school diploma or GED.


Transfer Students: You are considered a transfer student if you have completed any post-secondary (after high school) work at an accredited college/institution.

Nontraditional Students: You are considered a nontraditional student if you are over the age of 23 or you graduated from high school more than five years ago.

Graduate Students: You have already attained an undergraduate degree and are applying for a graduate degree program.


International Students: You have been educated outside of the United States and will be submitting international educational credentials as part of your application, and/or you are or will be in F-1 or J-1 visa status.

Health Sciences Center Students: Admission to the undergraduate and professional programs at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center requires a separate application process.

Readmitted Students: You are students who have left the University for at least one complete semester (excluding summer terms) and would like to return.


ACCESS Students: You are students who have completed your junior year of high school with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and wish to take college classes. ACCESS = Attaining College Credits and Experience while in Secondary School

Transient Students: You are a current WVU student that would like to take courses at another institution and receive WVU credit.


Senior Citizens: You are students who are senior citizens of West Virginia (age 65 and older) who meet residency requirements and would like to take classes at West Virginia University.
